Tell Us About Your Senior Pet

Max is now 16 and still wants to go outside to sniff the mailbox...

He needs help standing up and falls every few steps because his arthritis is getting worse, he eats while lying on his favorite 'monkey pillow' so we can give him his food with a spoon since he can't no longer keep himself standing if he's not walking.

It has been really hard watching him deteriorate to this point when no long ago he used to 'own the house'.

Sadly, we 're always asking ourselves if there's something that Max really enjoys even if we do anything that can possible be made to keep him feel comfortable.

Other Pets

Max is the older of our 3 dogs. Yaki (Cooker-poodle mix) and Lilo (Maltese-poodle mix) are his companions. We also have 2 cats, Mini and Angel and everyone gets along really well. Everybody is supposed to share family room but since it has became Max's territory, cats don't seem to like it very much and they often step right in front of the TV and drink his water probably just to show you that they just don't agree. Yaki and Lilo are always ready to run when Max is walking around because they know that he will very likely fall or step on them and they seem worried when he cries for help, they come to us trying to tell us that something is wrong with him, they love him and they are good friends.

Advice

  • No matter the age of your dog, our mission as guardians has to be, to always love them and provide for them, cause they really 'dedicate' their whole life to us.
  • Max has amazed us with his strength, his example of getting up and keep walking no matter how many steps he can make, he just always keep trying and we (humans) very often just quit.
