From Larry:
Im Larry and I will be 56 years old when I start the Veterinary Technology Program at Northern Virginia Community College. It is a five-semester program including one summer semester.
Now for a little history of myself. I grew up in a small town in Illinois. My father was allergic to animals so I did not any have any in the house. That did not prevent me from having chickens one year as a school project though.
Im presently a mechanical engineer and have been employed by the Department of Defense for all my working years. I work with the propulsion plants in nuclear-powered ships. Thus, becoming a Vet Tech is a big career change for me. I presently have nine kitties, five of which are insulin dependent. Those were all given-up by their previous caretakers. I had another diabetic kitty, Sammy, till the last week of July. He seemed fine Friday morning but by Saturday night his temperature had fallen to 98F and his blood pressure to 40. His body was failing so I had to say goodbye. I just hate doing that.
I first thought about becoming a Vet Tech about two years ago since I kept accumulating kitties and was learning a lot about their care. I thought I would see if I could stand the blood; I volunteered to help at a spay/neuter clinic and had no problem.
If you have any questions just ask.
-Larry
