This post is to begin the Vet School Diary of Bethany, who will be attending vet tech school in the fall to prepare for a career as a veterinary technician.

I am 33 and have been a legal secretary and legal assistant for the past 14 years. I graduated high school in 1990, attended vocational college for one year, and started work in a law firm. I've been with the same law firm for the past 10 years.
Knowing that my boss was nearing retirement age, I really started to think about what my next move would be when he did retire. Right about that same time, I was reading, "The Making of a Woman Vet," by Sally Haddock, DVM. Her book really got me thinking about working with animals and the veterinary field. It was only natural, as I've loved animals (even more than people) all my life.
I was not willing to put forth the money and time to go back to university for 4 years and then apply to vet school after that. Besides, I work much better "behind the scenes" and prefer to stay just outside of the spotlight.
After lots of research on the possibilities of taking online courses through Purdue for the vet tech program, I met with my local career college and quickly decided that taking the classes locally would make a lot more sense, even though the tuition is quite expensive for a 2-year associate's degree.
Once all these decisions were made, I was all set to talk to my boss about the situation. Before I even had a chance to talk to him, though, he came in to my office and told me that he is going to go part-time next summer!
I have more coincidences that I will relay in later installments, but suffice it to say that everything seems to just keep landing in the right place for me and I really feel like I am making the right decision.
