Roque...An Amazing story of Adoption Click here to see a larger photo of
Roque was due to be euthanized, but the humane society had some open pens so he transferred there. During his physical, his heartworm test came out positive. The German Shorthair Ponter rescue was called, but they did not have room so he was again to be euthanized. That day, I received a call from a lady in Detroit wanting to adopt this 1 1/2 yr old boy. So we explained the heartworm and she wanted to treat this dog. So today he started his treatment. For all the people who are weary of getting a shelter dog with no known medical or life history, this is one of the smartest dogs I have ever seen. I have never been a big hunting dog fan as they are too excited for me. But Roque walks so gently, he can sit, stay, speak, lay down and when you ask him if he wants to go hunting he starts barking. He is definetley a lucky dog. He is going to a wonderfull home next week! Update: Roque met his new family for the first time on Monday (July 3, 2000). They drove 3 hrs to get here and they absolutely loved him and he loved them. The heartworm treatment was a success and he went home!
