A Day in the life of An...

Animal shelter employee!
by Dawn Hills

Good day. My name is Dawn and I am employeed with the Rusk County Animal Shelter. I have been there 2 1/2 years and wouldn't change careers for a million bucks. I thought I would share my experiences with you.

Between cleaning pens, picking up strays and injured animals, spending time with the animals, doing educational speeches, typing the monthly newsletter, filing and the many many numerous things I am involved in including going to school for a degree as a Vet assistant and a mother of 4 there isn't anything (besides being a mom) that is more rewarding.

Examples would be: when you have found an animal a home and just saved their life, watching an animal deliver her babies, that great big lick when you have saved them from being hit by a car, or just simply for letting them know you care.

No matter what that animal has been through, they still have love to offer and lots of laughs. I thank God every day for allowing me to do what I love most in life and that is being around God's creations. ANIMALS

Many thanks to Dawn for taking the time to share what a day as an animal shelter employee is like.

If you are a veterinarian, veterinary technician, student, or other pet-related career professional, please submit your story and share what YOUR day is like -- it not only helps those aspiring to be in a veterinary career, it serves to enlighten pet owners just what goes on behind-the-scenes at a typical (or not-so-typical?) vet clinic.
