Feline Chin Acne - Possible causes, signs, and how to treat it

I received this question on Twitter: "What is the cure for acne on a cat chin? My regular vet cleans it up then says use rubbing alcohol to clean. It keeps coming back."

Many cats are not as severe as the the cat in the photo and primarily have just comedomes (blackheads), but my first thought: I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol if there are open wounds. It has a strong smell and stings.
