Pet Food Recall: Possible Salmonella Risk (Again)

Tuesday October 28, 2008
Mars Petcare US issued a voluntary recall of Special Kitty® Gourmet Blend dry cat food sold at Wal-Mart stores in 15 states. The recall was initiated following a positive test result indicating potential contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

Infection with Salmonella is called Salmonellosis. Common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (may be bloody) and abdominal cramps. In rare cases, symptoms are more severe.

This food should not be fed to pets. It is important to remember that as a food, pets will still be attracted to it and eat what they can if the food is not securely disposed.

Cross-contamination to people who handle the tainted food is possible. Please use proper sanitation and disposal techniques.

Consumers who purchased any of this recalled pet food can return the empty bag for a full refund.

Please see the full press release for more information on the October 27, 2008 Special Kitty® Gourmet Blend dry cat food recall.
