My tip for keeping pets safe

I have a good friend who stays overnight, but still has to go to work, so I was checking everything, when I came across the story following this tip. I tipped over my cat condos, the 3, 2 & 1 story round ones. Each one fell flat with the entrance on the bottom, & didn't roll over. I doubt my biggest cat could move it or roll it. So, I cut a diamond "exit" hole in the back of each condo.

I tipped it again, & the entrance fell forward again, but this time, the top had an exit, or at least a hole for my cat to breathe until he could be found. It gave me peace of mind.

How/why I learned this tip

I read a tragic story about a girl who came home & found her cat suffocated, because her condo with the top "mailbox" with the one opening " flap" closed on the cat, when it tipped over. The cat obviously couldn't move it, so a tragic ending resulted. I'm not sure how this would work on a standing condo like that, but I never buy that kind.

Tips and Tricks

  • I used a small saw to cut the diamond shape. Someone else might have a better tool to use. I have carpel tunnel, but this wasn't as hard to cut as I'd feared. The carpet pulled away a tin bit, but not enough to alter the form & function of the condo, or discourage the cats from curling up in them. I have all my condos cut with these "exits" now & they have worked.
  • I'm also very fearful of the recliner, so I make sure anyone sitting in it, looks under if first & calls to see if a cat is under there. ( another tragic story prompted that)

Thank you for this great tip and for being proactive about your own cats. You may have prevented a tragedy.
