Reader Submissions: Halloween Costumes for Pets

The selection of Halloween costumes for pets gets bigger and better each year. There are definitely some cute and funny costumes, but I always wonder if they are safe - can any buttons be chewed off and swallowed? What about ribbons or stringy decorations?

Pets should only wear costumes when supervised. Chewing their way out of a costume could mean a trip to the emergency clinic later on.

Cats are well known for suffering from "linear foreign bodies" - when the intestines tie up from string, but this can happen to string-eating dogs, too.
