Options my vet gave us to fix cherry eye

i just came from the animal ophthalmologist who quoted me $950.00 - $1012.00 to do the pocket procedure on one of his eyes the other eye is fine (so far) I am in Northern Kentucky. Good grief its so expensive but I want the best procedure for the puppy. I have found two other vets that will do the same procedure for about $300.00-$400.00, but they don't have the experience doing it as much as the ophthalmologist does, so is it a rip off at the ophthalmologist? Or should I let one of the general vets do it? It is scheduled in one month in mid July, I have time to change my mind but am already into the ophthalmologist for $182.00 today's charge. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What I'd Do Differently

  • I will probably call around a little more to get more quotes and other peoples opinions that have already dealt with this cherry eye situation. I don't want to jump into any one thing and just think because its an ophthalmologist that he can do a better job than an experienced vet.

Getting a second opinion may cost a bit up front, but will put questions to rest and help you reach a decision you are happy with.
