About my pet

I have a 4 year old Bullddog, who has had a cherry eye in both eyes. This latest one has been on going for a long time. Now she has an eye infection and we have to get rid of that before we can fix it. Wondering...is there a such thing as a cherry eye too big to tuck back in? If it is too big to tuck what are my options?

Options my vet gave us to fix cherry eye

The Vet said we could tuck it, but it looks too big to tuck. They said they don't know if they can tuck it until they are in the surgery. We did the wait and see for a long time and it never went back into place. But no one ever told me how long to wait to see if it would correct itself. Now I feel horrible that her cherry eye is so far gone.

What I'd Do Differently

  • I would have fixed this a long time ago if I knew what types of issues we would be facing now.

Janet Tobiassen Crosby, DVM, Veterinary Medicine Guide, says:

Cherry eye rarely "fixes itself" because it is a laxity in the supporting connective tissue. The gland may go out/in, but most require surgery to (hopefully) ensure a permanent solution.
