Tell Us About Your Senior Pet

My dog's name is Henry. His name was chosen by my ex and it's my middle name. I have had Henry since I was 21 years old so he has been a part of my entire adult life up to this point. He has been at my side through every up and down I have experienced. I even wrote this little poem about Henry once.

Henry is a mix of Cocker Spaniel and Shih-Tzu. He is about 18 pounds and is very docile and loving.

Other Pets

Buddy - shih tzu - 16 pounds - 7 years old

Bella - maltese/chihuahua - 4 pounds - 5 years old

Tater - barn cat - 16 pounds - 6 years old

All of my pets get along with one another except for Bella, the only female, who does not seem to realize she is also a dog. She is the princess of the house and does not like to be touched by the boys. I think the younger pets do tend to keep Henry more active than he would be if he were alone in the house.

Advice

  • Just love him and hold him as often as you can. Your time is coming to an end but never treat him as though it's over. Never feel sad but enjoy the time that remains. A happy dog has less reason to WANT to leave. He'll stick around as long as he can.

Janet Tobiassen Crosby, DVM, Veterinary Medicine Guide, says:

Thanks for sharing Henry's story. I agree - lots of history in those eyes. Good advice for enjoying each day, too.
