FURminator Deshedding Brush Tool for Grooming Dogs, Cats and Horses

An excellent tool that is worth the cost for those who live with pets and the hair they shed. Especially useful for "double-coated" (with dense undercoat) pets. Great for grooming at home and for the "in between groomer visits" for those who go to groomers regularly. The short fine tines reduce the chance of injury to pet and groomer.

My friend told me about the FURminator and told me that I must get one as soon as possible. I have a smooth collie and a collie-mix, so hair is an issue at my house. I admit that I am not the best groomer in the world, and well... I didn't get right on it. Undeterred, the same friend gave me a FURminator for my birthday. Now I had officially run out of reasons to procrastinate. I had try out the FURminator and report back to my friend on how it worked for my dogs, Rex and Sophie. This review is my report on what I think about this grooming tool.

Right out of the package, I tried this tool on Sophie, the collie mix. She has a very fine coat, and the tool worked wonders pulling out large amounts of undercoat quickly. She was a little hesitant and curious about the tool, but liked it overall.

I then tried out the FURminator on Rex, my smooth collie. Rex does not enjoy being brushed as a rule, never has. Now he is on the arthritic side, and that makes him even more sensitive to external pressures and movements. To my surprise, he really liked being brushed with the FURminator. Like Sophie, I was able to remove a large quantity of hair in a very short time. I would recommend brushing your pets outdoors if possible, due to the large amounts of hair! The FURminator blade tines are very short, so hair does build up quickly in the tool. (The hair is easy to remove from the tool, I just wanted to mention that aspect.)

I also used the FURminator on one of my cats, Herman Roosevelt Quinn, who is almost 16 years old. He didn't mind being brushed, and I did remove excess hair, but not as much (relatively speaking) as on the dogs.

My friend also recommended additional FURminator products; such as the shampoo and conditioner that she uses, and noted how smoothing grooming is using the various products.
