Vet School Diaries

Meet Cindy From University of Glasgow Veterinary School

By , About.com Guide

Now, it's 4 years later and I am beginning my last year of vet school! I am so excited and completely thrilled that I have made it this far. The education system here is SO different that it really does feel like a great accomplishment to get through 4 years without having to re-take any exams (or to fail).

This vet school diary will highlight my clinical experiences throughout the next year. I feel that this is what every vet student is waiting for - their totally clinical year. Glasgow's rotations are very few in the summer and you *really* start rotations in October. However, we must do 26 weeks of extramural studies (EMS) at various vet practices over our clinical years (years 3, 4 and 5). So far I have done 15 weeks. Starting next week, I'll be doing 3.5 weeks at an avian practice in northern California. Then 1 week on a RAVS trip in New Mexico, and finally 3 weeks at LSU doing stuff with exotics. I may not get credit for 3-4 weeks because I am over my limit of 'overseas' EMS. But that's OK. I'm hoping these externships will help with getting an internship somehow.

I think I've rambled on enough now! I'll write more sometime soon. I'm currently doing "hospital care" here at the vet school's small animal hospital. I will write all about it in a few days when it's all over. For now, I'm exhausted.

Please feel free to ask me any questions within my vet school diary.

Cindy
