I totally agree with the fact that vets should listen to their owners, allay their fears and doubts and also listen to them. If they refuse to do so, then I am sure other vets are around to do this!
At the same time, I feel that one must never force the vet into a decision or insist on this treatment instead of that [treatment]. After all, the vet's final aim is to ensure the pets well being. My own practice is totally dependent on how fast my patients recover and how happy the owners are. To further my progress, I would ensure that these two conditions are met, but I would politely first insist (after explanations) on letting me work. Especially when I am treating an emergency.
Good practice is about cooperation, between doctors and owners. The better this is, the more the pet benefits.

I am Veterinarian practising in Sri-Lanka.
I think that the owner of the pet knows more than us about his /her pet. I am always willing to hear what they say or think about their pets. I strongly believe our clients have all rights to ask "why?".
We have to answer their questions patiently and very simple way. Otherwise we don't have good future in this rapidly growing veterinary field.
