The Bottom Line
Our pets need good grooming and it is not just to make them look pretty. Proper grooming is essential for good health
This tool facilitates removal of undercoat to prevent matting and give a nice healthy sheen to the coat. The tool is easy to use, and my dog and cats enjoy their grooming sessions.
This tool, while more costly than other grooming tools, is well-built and will last a long time with proper care.

Guide Review - FURminator Double Edge Deshedding Tool
Like the earlier version of this tool, the edges are made of fine-tool stainless steel edge "blades" and are of high quality. They resemble single clipper blades (not able to clip hair). I like these tines better than other brushes I have used; I cannot puncture my fingers as I have done in the past.
The edge blade head portion of this tool is metal instead of plastic. It appears very sturdy. However, because of this, the tool is a little "top heavy" at times and caution is advised when grooming over legs or other bony parts. I caught myself bumping over Sophie's elbow and knee joints a couple of times.
My time is always at a premium. I did a grooming test to see just how much hair I could groom in 10 minutes for my 55 pound, double-coated dog. This tool performed well, as evidenced by the photos in the Sophie FURminator gallery.
The tool works well on cats, too. They enjoy the sessions and the tool desheds loose hair versus undercoat since my cats do not have undercoat.
