- Using a nail clipper, remove the broken end of nail.
- Gently wash the area with warm water and a mild skin cleanser or soap.
- Apply gentle but firm pressure with a clean piece of gauze or cloth.
- If there is a nail 'stump' visible, apply an antibiotic ointment to the remaining toenail and place a light wrap.
- It is advisable to have the injured toenail examined by your veterinarian.
Tips:- Shaving alum or a styptic pencil is wise to have on hand to control bleeding. Both of these items can be purchased over the counter at a drugstore.
