Week 38 Progress Report

I finally got on track with decreasing the prednisone a bit, and spoke to Dr G. about our general lack of progress. I also needed a refill of amitriptyline again, so asked if there was a larger dosage form of amitriptyline to cut down the numbers of pills we had to give, and fortunately there was a form that allowed a single tablet rather than five! We got a prescription for these filled at a pharmacy and picked up more chlorpheniramine there too (the pharmacy gets a real kick out of our dogs’ medication history now). I had the dogs down to ½ a 50 mg prednisone every other day. The lab figured we should try to get down to only needing a quarter tablet a couple of times a week. I’m not sure we can get there (and now I sound like a hypochondriac on behalf of my dogs!). Now that life had settled down a bit, I hoped I could get back on track.

Week 39 Progress Report

The dogs were hanging in there with the every other day prednisone, though Simba was deteriorating a bit as his skin was getting pink again and he was rubbing his face on the carpet more frequently. Also, Simba began shedding quite a bit, and it seemed that the spots on his skin were becoming more noticeable again. I hoped I was just imagining that.
