Dermatology Diary Part 5: Meet Simba and Asia

Week 24 Progress Report

I cut the dogs back to every other day prednisone this week. They did get more itchy, unfortunately, but it was still manageable. Overall, Asia's symptoms were probably a bit less controlled overall than Simba's; however, Simba showed the more dramatic return to itchiness when dropped to every other day dosing of prednisone. I debated putting them back up to every day dosing. I wanted the lowest dose that kept them comfortable, so it was hard to decide whether their symptoms were well-enough controlled. I continued to marvel at Simba's lovely new coat of fur, and much to my delight Asia started to get definite new hair growth too. This week, I had noticed a few more of the oozing sores on Simba's back, but in consultation with Dr. G. we decided to just monitor for a bit. She did suggest perhaps 2 days on and one day off might be a good compromise for dosing prednisone, especially when symptoms worsen.
