Contacting Your Guide: Frequently Asked Questions for Veterinary Medicine
Please note: I cannot diagnose your pet or provide second opinions via email. Also, due to the high volume of emails, I am unable to answer school project career interviews. Please contact a local veterinarian to interview and see a hospital "in action," in addition to the career resources on this site. See the FAQ below for more information.

- Help - my pet is sick!
Please note that no one, not even a veterinarian, can diagnose or prescribe treatment over the Internet. If your pet is ill or injured, please call your veterinarian as soon as possible. If your pet is bleeding, cannot urinate, has diarrhea, is vomiting, seizuring or otherwise "not himself," please call your veterinarian as soon as possible. If your vet is unable to assist you in the matter, you may want to seek a second opinion to get the medical assistance that your pet needs.
Please note: even if it is a holiday, after hours, or on a weekend, your veterinarian will most likely have an answering service or recorded instructions on who to contact in the event of a pet-related question or emergency. Simply call the regular office number to get the details.
F.A.Q.
- Q. Can you diagnose my pet or provide a second opinion?
- A. No. I cannot provide a diagnosis or second opinion from this site. Accurate diagnosis and treatment require the following: a complete physical examination, thorough history, and completion of appropriate tests and procedures.
- Q. But my pet is sick -- I need answers!
- A. The first thing to do anytime your animal is sick, injured, or just "not quite right" is to call your vet. A proper veterinary exam is always preferable to any advice found on a web page, via email, or forum post. There isn't any substitute for a hands-on exam and consultation.
