April, the Rescue Doxie

April is a rescue Doxie. She is now 18 years old. She came to us 7 years ago. April's original owner was old and died. The children did not want her. We contacted the Doxie rescue foundation of Long Island New York. We got April just before she was to be put down.

She came to us across the Orient Ferry from Maine to Mattituck the very day my husband came home from quadruple-by-pass surgery. At the time my husband was 45. He and April have bonded ever since. She is a standard smooth red [who is now almost gray], she has cataracts, and skintags. My Vet says she is healthy -- she eats, sleeps, goes out to the bathroom. She can still make it upstairs to sleep in bed with my husband.

Last year someone in my neighborhood tried to poison her. She was throwing up, and would not eat. She began to dehydrate

Off to the vet she went for 2 days of IV's. She is still here and a mush who loves to be petted. Two weeks ago, my other female gave birth to 7 pups, all are alive. (She is a mini red smooth who is 31/2.) April does not know what to make of these "things" (we have shown them to her). Her ears perk up and she smells them.

Anyway, to us, April is a success and we love her.
