Stories! Click here for the Success Stories Archive Jeffy, the Diabetic Min-PinJeffy is our 10 pound Miniature Pinscher. He is 11 years old. About 8 years ago, Jeffy began urinating way out of proportion. We took him to the vet and he was diagnosed diabetic. We began giving him a daily shot of insulin, and monitoring him closely. We were told that he might live 3 years or so. Well, they just did not know my Jeffy! He is still here, and in spite of being diagnosed with Cushing's disease 3 years ago,(for which he takes Anipryl), and in spite of his cataracts,(which will be removed this month if they are operable) he still is the same darling baby he was the day we got him. In the morning, I tell him to "go to your spot to get your shot" and he runs and jumps up on the bed. He will sit there until he gets his shot, then jumps down and heads for the kitchen for breakfast. He will not eat until he gets his shot! When we take him to the vet for an all day blood curve, he won't eat his afternoon feeding until the vet tech draws the blood for that hour! Somehow, he knows! We had a new vet tech one day, and she told the vets, "Jeffy just will not eat!!! It is just sitting in the bowl and he won't touch it!" One of the vets asked her if she had drawn his blood, and she said "I forgot!!!". The vet said maybe they should hire the dog and fire the vet tech!!!!!!!!! He is the most loving dog and never complains about his daily shots. The only thing that sometimes causes difficulty is that he thinks he is Greyhound, since we have four of them.[We also have another Min-pin, Dottie. She thinks she is a CAT!!!] Jeffy has defied all odds and is going strong!! Having the diabetes for 8 years and the Cushings for 3, he is truly our "Miracle Dog"!
