Dursban is a commonly used pesticide, seen most often in veterinary medicine as a insecticide in tick collars. It is also widely used in agriculture as an insecticide against many crop pests.

From Reuters June 8, 2000:

"The federal government Thursday banned most home uses of the pesticide Dursban -- the most widely used pesticide in the nation found in some 20 million homes -- due to neurological health risks including blurred vision and memory loss.

The ban is part of an ongoing effort to implement the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, which requires a systematic government review of all pesticides to ensure they meet tighter standards with the goal of protecting children foremost. "

The US and Canadian governments have recently acted to ban home use of Dursban and the use has been banned for some crops, restricted for others. Here are links to more information.
