Spay Day 2003
Ways to Get Involved to help Reduce Pet Overpopulation

It is that time of year again - The annual "Spay Day" campaign sponsored by the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF) that focuses on the continuing problem of pet overpopulation. Some refer to the problem of vast numbers of cats and dogs in shelters and running loose as the "Disease of Euthanasia", since many of the unwanted animals are ultimately put to death in shelters nationwide.

As reported on this site many times, pet overpopulation is a huge problem -- in the United States and around the world. For background information on this topic, and to learn more about the actual spay and neuter surgeries, please see these related articles from this site:

So what IS Spay Day?
This is a day in February set aside for veterinarians, volunteers, and pet owners to work together to offer spay/neuter discounts, offer organizational help, or just a push to make that spay or neuter appointment for your own pet. From the Spay Day site:

"Spay Day USA is the last Tuesday of February. However, many local groups recognize Spay Day USA during the weekend before or after this day, during the entire last week of February, and/or during the entire month(s) of February and/or March. "

How do I get involved?
Pets911 is the official Spay Day USA event registration and reporting site. Pets911 is a large community-specific and general information source for people concerned about pet overpopulation and learning more about it.
