My day starts
out at 8:00 am....being the only tech in a one doctor, one receptionist
clinic is very trying!
I have to assist
the receptionist in answering the phones, checking in the daily
patients and caring for the
boarders and in hospital patients!
Cleaning kennels
all day long! Laundry....laundry...laundry!
Assisting the
doctor with apointments. Doing all lab work, including in house
CBC's* by hand..in a record breaking 30 minutes! Then shifting into
surgery...I shave, prep, assist and monitor the patient! I also
do all dentals!
Then Pause for
a quick lunch...maybe 5 minutes!
And then it's
back to appointments until 5!
Ahhhhhhh! And
at the end of the day knowing that you helped one little critter,
and made one client happy...you know it's worth it!

Many thanks to Tara for taking the time to share what a day as a tech
in a small veterinary office is like.
If you are a veterinarian, veterinary technician, student, or other pet-related
career professional, please submit your story
and share what YOUR day is like -- it not only helps those aspiring to
be in a veterinary career, it serves to enlighten pet owners just what
goes on behind-the-scenes at a typical (or not-so-typical?) vet clinic.
