Religion: Relevance to Animal Rearing Current topic for the dairy men around the world is the scare caused by BSE. Ancient Hindu religion of India has always declared beef eating as the worst of the sins. This to most modern Europeans was only religious bigotry. However, when this injunction is coupled with the fact that the cattle got infected by sheep's bones and innards fed to them and eating of beef, inturn, infected humans; is it not surprising that eating of mutton (lamb's meat) did not infect human beings? The ancient Hindus being the first amongst humans to take unto agriculture and being dependent on cattle, horses, and all types of animals, most of whom they elevated to the status of carriers of their Gods probably have much more to teach in the art of rearing the animals, to rest of the advanced world.
