Viewpoint Research assistance sought: Anthrax Research assistance sought --- we are seeking dairy farmers who routinely vaccinate their herds against Anthrax. We have technology which can remove what are called " transfer factors " from bovine colostrum. These factors convey immunologic memory which are transferred from the mother to the calf in the first colostral feedings so that the newborn has the ability to mount a secondary immune response against microbial threats that it hasn't even been exposed to. Cattle that have received an Anthrax vaccine, and thus have immunity to Anthrax, will carry Anthrax antigen-specific "transfer factors" within their body which will be concentrated in their colostrum. Our goal is to try to determine if this immunologic memory can be transferred to humans. In theory, it should be transferable since transfer factors are identical for all species. If you live in an area where dairy farmers routinely vaccinate against Anthrax, please get back to me so that we can see if some colostral collection can be obtained in order to proceed with our research.
