OVERWEIGHT? DON'T WAIT!
Learn how to determine if your pet is overweight, and what
to do about it. This week, diet and dietary management. Next
week, exercising safely.

LAB'S LEAKY NIPPLES
"My 3 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab seems to be leaking.
Sometimes it is just a drop or two. Other times it seems
to be several ounces. She does not seem to be feeling ill.
Does anyone have any experience with this problem?"

OFFICE JOB TO VET CAREER
"I'm 27 and seeking the satisfaction I've found volunteering
at a horse ranch in PA on a more consistent basis. How does
one make the transition mentally from working in an office in
New York City to the uncertain and elusive feeling of joy
garnered on weekends?" CMWIDMER

POLL: DO YOU EXERCISE WITH YOUR PET?
Does your pet give you a reason to exercise, or is it the other
way around?

INFECTION AFTER SPAYING
"My 7 month old kitten was spayed one week ago today on Dec. 28.
I took her to the vet today to get the stitches removed and the
vet decided she needed to keep her for a couple of days to flush
out infection around the incision. They are treating her with water
therapy and antibiotics. The vet assures me that I should not be
alarmed, but I'm worried. Any thoughts on the seriousness of
infections after surgery?" GEORGE34100

NEW QUIZ THIS WEEK!

CAT RIPPED CLAW OUT
"Somehow over the weekend my 18 month old Devon Rex cat managed
to tear one of his front claws completely out. We took him to the emergency
clinic and they finished the job and applied a pressure bandage. The
emergency vet did mention that he appears to have gingivitis (swollen
gums) and we are going to take him in for a check up tomorrow. Oh, and
then today he suddenly turns up with all this black tarry gunk in one
of
his ears. It is possible he picked up mites in the vet hospital, but the
timing
with the gums and the claw makes me suspicious. Thoughts?" STAJE
