Press Release: Colic Care Vet Program Offered For Horses Fed Daily Dewormer Received 02-09-01 Farnam Companies,
Inc. PHOENIX, Ariz. - (Feb. 9, 2001) Colic is a dreaded word for anyone who has had to deal with a serious bout of it in his or her horse. In addition to intestinal dysfunction, internal parasites are a leading cause of colic in horses. Studies suggest a daily dose of pyrantel tartrate may help decrease the risk of colic. Farnam Companies, Inc., the leader in equine dewormers, announces its new Continuex(tm) (pyrantel tartrate) Daily Dewormer and ContinuCare(tm) Program. The colic care program is offered to horses that are fed Continuex according to label directions, and who are receiving preventative care through a veterinarian. Farnam will reimburse expenses up to $5,000 for eligible horses that require colic surgery, including the surgeon's fees and three days of aftercare when program conditions are met. In order for a horse to be eligible, daily use of Continuex is required along with ivermectin treatments twice a year, annual physical and dental exams, dental treatment, appropriate immunizations and nutritional counseling. As a special offer from Farnam, horse owners who purchase Continuex can receive free ZIMECTERIN® (ivermectin) for broad-spectrum larvicide protection. Pyrantel tartrate, the active ingredient in Continuex, provides constant protection against the parasites that harm a horse most: small and large strongyles, roundworms and pinworms. Daily deworming with Continuex breaks the parasite life cycle. Continuex kills worms as soon as they enter the horse, stopping parasite damage before it starts. Continuex is very palatable and easy to feed, and it may be fed to foals as soon as they start eating grain, around two to three months of age. Continuex also is approved for stallions and mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Veterinarians looking
