PHOENIX, Ariz. - (Dec. 4, 2003) Veterinary Products Laboratories (VPL) announced today that Schering-Plough Animal Health, is the official Canadian distributor of Feliway®, D.A.P.® (Dog Appeasing Pheromone), Modipher EQ(tm) Mist (Equine Appeasing Pheromone) and TISSUMEND II Synthetic Absorbable Tissue Adhesive.

"We are extremely pleased to secure a relationship with one of the leading companies in the Canadian veterinary community, " said Betsy Watkins, VPL's U.S. director of sales. "This partnership allows the veterinarians in Canada easy access to these products."

"We are excited about this new partnership. In addition to our own research and development efforts, this will allow Schering-Plough Animal Health to bring even more new innovations to the Canadian veterinary community," said Paul Ray, companion animal product manager for Schering-Plough Animal Health, Canada.

Developed by veterinarians, Feliway for cats and D.A.P. for dogs are synthetic pheromones that naturally control and manage pet behavior associated with anxiety, fear, stress or phobias. The pheromones are released into the animal's environment through a diffuser that plugs into an electrical outlet, delivering pheromones 24 hours a day for approximately 30 days of trouble-free treatment.

D.A.P. calms dogs by emitting synthetic pheromones that mimic the pheromones of a lactating female dog. By replicating this signal of comfort, D.A.P. helps alleviate fear and stress related behaviors. Feliway replicates the friendly facial pheromones cats use to mark territory when they rub their cheeks against people and objects. Feliway also is available in a pump spray, and a pump spray of D.A.P. will be available in January 2004.

These species-specific pheromones don't counteract each other or have any effect on the opposite species or humans in the house.

Modipher EQ Mist is for equine veterinarians who wish to offer an alternative to owners looking for a natural, safe and effective way to reduce stress and thereby modify horse behavior caused by fear-based stress. The product is based on a technology that has been available for years, and recommended and used by certified behaviorists and veterinarians in Europe. It is intended to be used as an aid in the management and reduction of anxiety that may occur during the following stress-inducing situations: Transportation (both loading and transport), prevention of fearful situations (including separation anxiety, clipping, shoeing, etc.), new environments (riding outdoors, new stable, new place, new noises, crowds), training (breaking foals, training for competition or show, ground training), and social situations (mare-foal separation, loneliness, behavior with other horses, behavior with people, such as the veterinarian, farrier or new owner). Modipher EQ is NOT a product active against pain, a sedative, and does not increase the horse's performance.

TISSUMEND II Synthetic Absorbable Tissue Adhesive is indicated for the closure of surgical wounds, declaws, tail dockings, incision sites, debrided trauma wounds, hemostasis and laser surgical procedures. Supplied in a box of 20 pre-filled pipettes that are packaged under dry nitrogen for increased stability and shelf life, TISSUMEND II has all the characteristics of an ideal tissue adhesive: Absorbed via hydrolysis, tissue friendly, forms a durable bond for excellent tissue tensile strength, acts as a hemostatic agent, may be used with many tissue types, bioabsorbable, and economical and easy to use. Packaged in a convenient 0.2 ml surgeon friendly pipette, a quantity that, if refrigerated and stored correctly, should provide for three declaw procedures. Veterinarians in Canada looking for information about these products should call Schering-Plough Animal Health toll free at (800) 605-2584 or their local sales representative.
