PHOENIX, Ariz. – (Nov. 3, 2003) Veterinary Products Laboratories (VPL) and Stolle Milk Biologics, Inc., (SMBI) announced today the development of Duralactin® Feline, which contains the proprietary ingredient of MicroLactin(tm). Duralactin® Canine was launched successfully in December 2002.

VPL recently completed a 5X safety assessment in cats that demonstrated no clinical or laboratory evidence of toxicity. Double-blinded, controlled human and canine studies using Duralactin® demonstrated relief of symptoms and signs associated with osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal problems.

“The degree of veterinary requests to develop a product for cats after the introduction of the canine product prompted us to accelerate our development,” says Craig Woods DVM, MS, MBA, vice president of business development for VPL. “Duralactin is considered a biological response modifier. By its very nature, Duralactin appears to have broad applications for a number of inflammatory conditions in cats.”

SMBI is focused on providing proprietary, science-based solutions for consumer health concerns in our aging population through the discovery, development, and commercialization of new ingredients for the functional food, dietary supplement, companion animal, and pharmaceutical industries.
