Celebrating the Human-Animal Bond
More than ever, pets are part of the family. We love our pets! Did you know that besides the fun and enjoyment, there are actual health benefits for the owners of pets? Studies have shown real health benefits - lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, reduced stress levels, and better mental health for those living with pets.
National Pet Parent's Day
To celebrate pet caregivers and the special bond we share with our pets, Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) has declared the last Sunday in April as National Pet Parent's Day. This year, the date is April 27th, and VPI is offering free electronic greeting cards to help people show appreciation for their favorite pet caregiver friends and family.
Personal Observations
Have you noticed health benefits from having pets? Have you worked with a pet therapy organization or utilized pet therapy or a service animal? With so many stories of animal neglect and abuse in the news, it is nice to focus on the positive side of pet guardianship once in a while. I know for sure I’ve always had a special bond with both my cats and dogs. I used to think maybe I was a little strange, but I’ve been reading more and more books and memoirs like Tatianna: Tales and Teachings of My Feline Friend by Linda Mohr. It’s is a wonderful, heartwarming story of the human-animal bond between her and her cats, and it makes me think maybe I’m not so strange after all.
