Getting to Know Through A Dog's Ear
I first met Joshua Leeds and Lisa Spector, the creators of Through A Dog's Ear, in 2008, while visiting the Westminster dog show.
I love music and have music playing all of the time. I am also very interested in the effect that music has on people and pets. I have read various human studies over the years, and was pleased to hear about this "dog project" - investigating the effects music could have on dogs. Especially the calming effects of music for dogs in stressful situations such as shelters, boarding kennels, even in your own home; during thunderstorms or while alone in the house.
Both Leeds and Spector are huge dog lovers and put extensive time, energy and research into this project. I wrote about how Through A Dog's Ear was born, have reviewed many of their products over the years (see list below) and include these CDs and book on my annual Pet Gift Guide. The bottom line is that I listen to this music often. I find that this beautiful, non-intrusive music is a great way to focus and get work done for humans, too.
Giving Back
Since that first meeting in 2008, I have followed the development of Through A Dog's Ear and met with Lisa Spector over the years. Spector and Leeds really want to help shelter dogs get adopted and stay adopted, and their continued generous donations of this music to shelters and new adoptive families work toward that goal.
Free Music for You and Help Shelters, Too
As they did last year, Through A Dog's Ear is offering free, no-strings attached, music for viewers to download, one song a day for seven days. A new download is available each day through Sunday, December 11, 2011.
To add to the holiday fun, they are offering a word game. One scrambled word will appear each day with the new download. At the end of seven days (Sunday 11/12), put the seven words together into a logical sentence and win Through A Dog's Ear prizes for your local shelter. An easy, fun way to help shelter animals and adoptive families.
