The FAQ on Dealing with Guilt was inspired by a forum post from a pet lover experiencing guilt after finding maggots on her dog. Flies are common in the warmer months, and they lay eggs in dead tissue and soiled material (for example, urine or feces on the hair coat). The eggs then develop into larvae, also known as maggots, that need to eat.
It is important to note that maggots can appear and be plentiful quite fast (8-12 hours), and will eat away tissue on your pet if the right conditions are present.
