The Canine Influenza Virus (CIV), also known as the H3N8 virus, jumped from horses to dogs in 2004; it was first discovered in Greyhounds in Florida. A vaccine for this respiratory disease was conditionally approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in June 2009.
