Pet lovers know how important the human animal bond is. We live it. Animals also provide valuable services for their human companions, such as guide dogs for the blind, search and rescue dogs, horse (riding) therapy, and therapy animals working in hospitals and nursing homes.
Today, through a Twitter post from AAHA, I learned about a new kind of service dog: peanut sniffer. A dog's sense of smell is approximately 1000 times more sensitive than humans. What an incredible way to harness the super smelling powers of the canine nose!
In this story, Eight-year-old Riley Mers, a girl with a life-threatening peanut allergy, has a "guardian angel" in the form of Rock'O, a highly trained Portuguese Water Dog.
