My Story: Pet Not "Being Him/Herself"

Thursday January 1, 2009
Veterinary Medicine Forum member TBOOTIP2 writes: "I would like to share a story. My pet was not quite herself, sullen, not as active but having no problems with bladder/bowel or with eating. After a few days I took her to my vet. After several tests and exams brought no answers, he decided to x-ray her abdomen. She had swallowed a quarter. It had been there awhile (we found out post surgery) and she was becoming toxic from the metals in the quarter.

So, the question of whether to take a pet that is not acting like themselves to the vet or wait, my response would be take it to the vet, hands down! I was so glad that my pet did not go into organ failure and die, which may have happened if I had waited too long."
