Jogger Bitten By Rabid Fox In Arizona

Thursday November 6, 2008
This is an amazing story. The Associated Press (AP) reported today that a woman jogger in Arizona who was attacked by a rabid fox continued to run one mile to her car, where she pried the fox off of her arm, and then drove herself to the hospital for treatment.

Somehow, she had the presence of mind to want to have the fox tested for rabies, so she put the fox in her trunk for the drive to the hospital. The fox then bit an animal control officer who opened the truck to retrieve the fox.

No word yet on the rabies test results, but both the woman and the animal control officer are receiving post-exposure rabies vaccinations.

I jog a few miles a week. I cannot imagine running one mile with a fox attached to my shoe! I wish a quick recovery for this woman and the animal control officer in this case.
