Rabies Vaccine - Just for Licensing?

Monday November 3, 2008
Bat clinging to wall © Wendy HoganOLIVEOIL54 wrote this about rabies vaccinations: "I am not one for going against "the law" but I feel it is ridiculous to force us to do this in order to license our animals."

KAHLUADANES replied: "Of all the vaccines offered for pets, the rabies is probably the most important. Rabies is a public health concern. It is a disease that is not species specific. Rabies isn't just law in order to license your dogs; it is law in order to protect the health/safety of your pets, your family, your friends and other people & pets that may come in contact with yours. Rabies is a disease that is wide spread and even indoor only pets aren't immune from it."

(1) VRMA says:

RABIES IS TRANSFERABLE TO HUMANS!! THERE IS NO CURE!! ONLY TREATMENT (RECOVERY MAY ONLY BE TO A VEGETATIVE STATE) YOU DO NOT NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE BIT TO BE INFECTED… IT IS TRANSMITTED THROUGH SALIVA – SKUNKS AND CATS WILL SHARE THE SAME FOOD DISH. – THEY WILL NURSE EACH OTHERS YOUNG…. RABID SKUNK + CAT WITH GINGIVITIS/BLEEDING GUMS OR CRACKED BLEEDING MAMMARY GLANDS = POSSIBLE RABIES INFECTIION. INFECTED CAT SHEDDING RABIES THROUGH SALIVA + CLEANING ITSELF + PERSON PETTING CAT WITH OPEN SORE (HANG NAIL) = HUMAN EXPOSURE TO RABIES!!- PEOPLE DIE FROM RABIES!! MY HUSBAND”S GRANDMA DIED FROM RABIES!! VACCINATING PETS/ANIMALS AGAINST RABIES IS VERY CHEAP INSURANCE… HAVING PETS AND NOT VACCINATING IS PLAYING WITH HUMAN LIVES. EVEN IF YOU LIVE IN TOWN, IT TAKES ONE TIME FOR YOUR PET TO GET OUTSIDE AND EXPOSED (RABID ANIMALS HAVE NO FEAR AND COME WONDERING IN TO THE STRANGEST OF PLACES.)I VACCINATE DOGS, CATS, HORSES EVERY YR. WEATHER THEY NEED IT OR NOT…THIS IS A NO BRAINER – IF YOU ARE AGAINST VACCINATING AGAINST RABIES THEN I AM SORRY – YOU ARE NOT EDUCATED AND YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANIMALS/PETS!
