Drawing up a vaccinationMaking the decision to try vaccinating pets at home is not one that should be taken lightly. If something goes wrong, such as a adverse reaction to the vaccine or an injection injury, the vet bills will be much higher than a regular appointment.

A large part of the vaccination appointment is the examination prior to the injection. How are the teeth? Are the ears odor free? What about fleas or ticks? It is also a great time to speak one-on-one with your veterinarian about your pet's diet, weight or any behavioral issues.

In today's economy, everyone is looking for ways to save money whenever possible, which is completely understandable. As far as untrained pet owners giving vaccinations at home after reading a how-to pamphlet, you can probably bet that my answer to this question is a "no." I will be working on some other money-saving veterinary ideas in the near future. In the meantime, check out what Franny Syufy, the About.com Guide to Cats, has to say about owners giving pets vaccinations at home.
