Westminster Dog Show -- Adapting to City Life
Each year in February, hundreds of dogs and their humans arrive in New York City from the United States and around the world for the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. This year, 2,627 champion dogs will arrive for the 132nd annual show; 2,500 dogs for general entry and 127 dogs for the Junior Showmanship portion of the show.
As part of my coverage of this event, I will be focusing on the veterinary aspects; traveling with dogs, pet therapy, training and health of dogs involved in the professional dog show circuit.
Since learning that I would be attending this well-known event, some of of my first questions were: where do the dogs stay in the city, how do they adapt to the stress of travel and city life, and just where do all of those dogs "go for a walk" to relieve themselves?
