Pet Food Recall Expanded to Fish; Flour is the Problem, not Gluten
It was announced earlier today that fish from salmon farms have now been contaminated with melamine from eating tainted food. Canadian fish meal makers apparently used left over food from the pet food manufacturing process to make fish food pellets.
According to KING 5 News in Seattle: "the tainted feed may also have been used to feed hatchery fish, which are eventually released into the wild where they can be caught by sport and commercial fishers." Full story
Ingredients Mislabeled
In related news, federal officials are now saying that it is wheat flour, not wheat gluten or rice protein concentrate that is at the heart of the pet food recall. Apparently, the flour was mislabeled as wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate.
