Pet Food Recall - FDA has Opened a Criminal Investigation
Sunday April 22, 2007
As reported by the Washington Post, the FDA has opened a criminal investigation of the pet food scare, as it has now been determined that meat from hogs fed contaminated feed may have made it to human dinner tables in California. The hogs were fed rice protein tainted with melamine, the same poison found in recalled pet food. This toxin has been responsible for hundreds (likely thousands) of dog and cat illnesses and deaths in the US and around the world. At this time, no hogs or humans have been reported to be sick from eating the tainted food. The investigation is still in the early stages; it is unknown at this time if the chemical will be detected in the hog meat.
