Natural Balance® Pet Food Update

I mentioned the addition of Natural Balance® Pet Food to the pet food recall on April 17th, and at the time of my original post, the Natural Balance® web site said that the toxin was unknown. Since then, laboratory tests have shown that the recalled products contain melamine. This new source of toxic chemical has been found to be associated with rice protein concentrate imported from China.
Since Tuesday, the number of Natural Balance® Pet Food products being recalled have expanded from 2 items to 4:
- Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Formula
- Venison and Brown Rice Canned Dog Food
- Venison & Brown Rice Formula Dog Treats
- Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Formula
- Update - 4/18/07: We are currently waiting on test results for our Canned Venison & Brown Rice Formula Canned Dog Food and our Venison & Brown Rice Formula Dog Treats. We have voluntarily recalled these products as a precautionary measure, as they contain Rice Protein Concentrate. When we receive the test results on these products, we will update you further.

This recent pet-food recall has really got the attention of dog owners. What is actually in our dogs food? Most dog owners want to feed their dog as close to a natural diet as possible. But that is very difficult to do when you cannot trust the food producers.
