MELTONWC asks: "I am having my dog neutered and having dental done on the same day. I know that he will need at least one tooth removed. My vet is saying that he has to stay overnight, but I think he would be better off at home because there will be no staff at the vet overnight. Is this the right decision or should I leave him overnight?"

I think you should leave your dog there. You may think he would be safer at home but if you think about it, you would be taking your dig to the same place where there is no staff.Trust me. I had a dog and he had to have a surgery to see what was wrong, he had to stay there 3 days!He came home but. they didn’t know what was wrong. In the end he died of cancer at the age of seven.Long story short he was fine more than 1 night there. I hope this helps you.

I know it is hard to leave a loved one, one night can seem so long. I am a Veterinary Technician and I belive if your Vet said your baby pup should stay there you should trust him

If I were you I would take my dog home. A neuter plus one tooth removal does not warrant an overnight stay. It seems irresponsible of the vet to keep patients overnight without any supervision. A patient could get tangled in his i.v. line, get burned by a heating blanket or urinate in his cage and have to sleep in it causing skin irritation. I am also a vet tech not a veteriarian. You must make your own decision based on your own concerns.
