Cats are very susceptible to upper respiratory infections that manifest as sneezing, runny eyes, and sometimes nasal discharge. Some cats may not eat as well due to decreased sense of smell. Feline asthma is a non-infectious disease of middle aged cats that manifests as wheezing and coughing and can mimic other conditions, such as heart failure. Anytime your pet is showing signs of illness or just not "him/herself", it is time to visit your veterinarian for an examination and possible treatment of the underlying cause.
HEMIBARACUDA asks: "My cat is sick. She has developed a sneezing problem that I had first noticed a couple of days ago. Now, it's almost a constant sneeze and she has to keep her mouth open to help her breath. She is eating all right, and drinking also; but it takes her awhile to do both. We are really concerned for her and if any one could help me out that would be great!"

Hi HEMBARCUDA,
I think you should take your cat to the vet because your cat could be very sick. So i hope you taek your cat to the vet and that he/she gets better.
Hi HEMBARCUDA,
My 15 month old cat had the same problem; constant sneezing. I definetly think you should take her to the vet like I did, they will probably tell you all you need to do and know. I hope your cat gets better
oy, you need a thread to tell you to bring your cat to the vet??!?!? she sounds quite sick!
take your cat to the vet!!! its obviously ill..why are you here asking when you should be at the vet asking!!
i have 6 cats and three of them had a sneezing problem for about 6 days i called the vet he told me to take his temp make sure it’s not above 102.5 if it is take him to the vet if not then alittle saline spray in the nose and make sure nothing was in the nose. i did what he told and within a week of cleaning the nose he was fine.. hope u have the same outcome goodluck…
Take your cat to the vet, I think your cat is sick. My cat just starting sneezing last night and if he contuies I am going to make him a appoinment by the end of this week.
I had my one cat to the vet for a skin disorder and he came home with three different meds. After he was home 2 days, he couldn’t stop sneezing. Now my older cat wont’ stop sneezing. the cat that was originally sneezing has stopped, but it is obviously contagious amongst themselves. I am calling my vet tomorrow regarding my older cat.
As comment #5 said: If the temp is over 102.5, then call the vet. My vet said: “Upper respiratory infections in an otherwise healthy cat, if left untreated can last as long as 14 days. With treatment, they should be cured within 2 weeks.” In other words; TLC, warm chicken soup, taking the cat into a steamy bathroom for a few minutes a few times a day, tempting with food and keeping them warm are about all you can do. An antibiotic should be administered only if the vet is certain there’s a non-viral infection. Of course, if the nasal discharge is colored or thick, you should see the vet. (If you suspect a foreign object of some kind is in the nose – see the vet.)
One more thing FYI: One of my cats started spraying a red discharge when he sneezed. I definitely freaked out and got him to the vet very quickly. My vet said it was NOT serious, can be common in a Kitty Cold, it happens because a cat can burst a tiny blood vessel in the nostril because of the constant sneezing – but it sure looks scary. (In our case, the Vet gave an antibiotic to prevent infection from the burst blood vessel.) Hope this helps.
I have a male hymalayan who sneezes all the time,I took him to the vet when it started 10 months ago.He was put on several antibiotics during this time it would work while on the meds but he would go back to sneezing and now with discharge.the vet finally did a Bartonella test,he is positive.
I’ve had cats which have returned from the vet with sneezing which they caught while there… Best treatment I found is using L-Lysine (amino acid) in their wet food. Get capsules as they are powdered and easy to open. Once a day use approx. 1/2 or a bit less of capsule stirred into wet food – I add water to make it more soupy. After they drink the “soup”, they are usually mostly finished if they’re not feeling very “spry”. After about _5 days_ of doing this once a day, entire virus is gone. L-Lysine _only_ works with food as it’s an amino acid, remember. Aand it works with all RNA viruses which is most of them. For people, take one capsule with each meal. Used this for save my entire household of cat flu and gave to neightbors too for their own cats so all were treated, just in case. Cat flu is usually untreatable – my vet now thinks of this as a miracle cure. Best of luck!
P.S. Forgot to remind everyone to have plenty of fresh water _all_ over house for cats as if you’ve more than one cat, treat them all he same with the partially-opened L-Lysine capsules. If it is a virus, they’ll no doubt share it.. >8] Keep those bowls _really_ clean. Wash all their dishes thoroughly to get all the soap off as it gives them diarrhea if they ingest soap!
Much thanks #8!! My other wise ‘huge and healthy’ 10 year old house cat was locked in the barn accidentally on a cold winter night… now he has the sneezes but other wise seems fine. I am going to try the L-Lysine tomorrow and hopefully ward off any further cold symptoms!
My oldest cat (13) has developed a sneezing and wheezing problem over the last two weeks, we took him to the vet and she gave him the antiroble medication. Does that really treat the condition. Please advise?
My cat has episodes of sneezing and watery eyes. When it starts I crush up half a tablet of vitamin C (250 mg) and put in it strained meat baby food to ensure she eats it. After 4 days it’s gone. Good luck.
My cat is like that. Sneezing horribly. And i dont know what is wrong with her. But i dont have any money to take her to the vet. what do i do? Email me. And tell me. PLZ!
i love her so much i have had her for almost 3 years.
I had a cat that had this same problem. It sneezed and his eye was irritated for about 4 days and then he was fine. He is 13 years old. During this time he didn’t appear very sick. He just sneezed and his eye watered a little. It seemed harmless to me because he acted as if he felt fine. Now it is one week later and he is totally normal again, which means back to terrorizing me
I’d wait it out a week.
My cat has been sneezing a lot for yesterday and then again today..She is an “inside cat” because where I live there are “no animals allowed” and it is very diffiult to take her to her vet ( I have to try to sneak her in and out ..hoping I won’t get kicked out of my home if someone sees her and is a bitchy old woman or grumpy old man. (live in a 55+ complex) I have been lucky so far because she stays indoors and hasn’t had any problems except for an eye and ear infection once as she is not exposed to other animals. She is eating well and doesn’t acts normal.
typo..she DOES act normal
I have read all the “comments” from the various people that have been to this site. What does Dr. Crosby say???
My comments are at the top of this post, originally published January 2006.
“Anytime your pet is showing signs of illness or just not “him/herself”, it is time to visit your veterinarian for an examination and possible treatment of the underlying cause.”
The viewer writes that her cat is almost constantly sneezing and having difficulty breathing. This is definitely time to visit the vet (asap).
Wow. It really sounds like your cat has some problems.
It could be allergies, maybe? My cat sneezes at times, but it’s usually just a couple of times. He does it when I spray air freshener as well.
Hope you figure out what’s causing it.
Hi
About three months ago my 12 year old cat started having sneezing fits, I was extremely worried and took her to the vets where she has been on atibitcs since, it has been several months now and the tablets work but every time I try to reduce them the sneezing fits come back again.
The vet has told me that we may need to keep her on these tablets permanantly, but I am hoping that come the summer months when the weather gets better that she may get better.
My cat is a stray. She was found in some apartments unclaimed. She had problems around her mouth and I took her to the Vet. She had stomitus virus. Infection was all in her back teeth & throat very red. Eyes watering. When I took her home next day she started sneezing and acted like respiratory problem with her nose. She cannot breath good. I called the Vet and they told me to give her one half baby benedryl. I have given that to her twice and she seems to be getting better. She is eating can food and dry food but coughs & sneezes afterwards. Her sneezing is getting better. I am going to continue giving her the half of Baby Benedryl for a day or two and she how she does. You might try that.
I have read all of the comments above also, and seen all the smart remarked ones too
Although plenty of people can afford to take their animals to the vet, I am one that can not. Anyone knows that it is a ridiculous amount of money for an animal just to be seen…and THEN add the amount of how much their medicine, etc., will be.
Anyways…I have looked plenty of places on the internet to try to see if anyone would know what would be wrong with my cat. On the comments on this page a lot of people say that their cat would have watery eyes or runny noses with their sneezing and wheezing. My cat had kittens probably around 4 months ago, and lost tons of weight afterwards. For two weeks now she has been wheezing and sneezing. Every where she goes you can hear her breathing because it SOUNDS like her nose is runny, but it never is. And you know the sound a cat makes when they’re about to vomit? Well when she is sneezing, sometimes she’ll start making a similar sound to that, but she’ll just sneeze some more. She acts perfectly fine still…but she DOES act like she’s always out of food! She bothers me all the time like she needs water, food, kitty litter cleaned…but I always check everytime she bothers me, and its always fine! (So the comments above me about how they could start losing their sense of smell could possibly be true for my cat.) Now I have three cats, which one of them is one of her kittens, and the other cats don’t have any of these symptoms…and this has been happening for two weeks now.
Now, I’m not trying to be rude, but please don’t comment back saying that I NEED to take her to a vet, because like I said, I can’t afford it. She acts perfectly happy still, she’s always been a love bug and still is! It’s just the breathing noises and her sneezing all the time. (and no, I haven’t started using anything different in my home that she’d be allergic to).
I guess I’m just really wondering if anyone could tell me something that they tried on their cat, and if it worked, please? I am a big cat lover, and consider them as my babies.
When I pointed out that everyone mentioned their cats had runny noses and watery eyes…I meant to put afterwards that mine did not
lol.
Please spay your cat. You have no idea how many cats and kittens are being euthanized every day because people “can’t afford” to spay their cats or think it’s cute for them to have kittens. In the USA, 80% of cats and kittens NEVER get a home. Please call your local humane society and find out about low-cost programs for neutering your cats. They will be healthier and not adding to the heart-breaking problem we rescuers face every day.
I went through a really bad episode of a uri that wouldn’t go away. I ordered azithromycin from vet rx direct and got my vet to authorize it. They started getting better overnight. It even clears up the eyes. I also used little noses saline drops in their noses. A vaporizer will also help. I am in cat rescue and some of our fosters get perscriptions from a doctor for this medicine for the cats. Good luck.
Please consider your finances before getting a pet… Pets are not free and their health should be treated as though they were a part of your family… If my pet were sneezing and gagging and sounding like they had a runny nose, even if I couldn’t see it… I would go to the vet… What is the cost if it is something treatable and you ignore it and your pet dies?
I love it when someone comes to a site like this with a health issue about a pet.. and is told to see a vet…. Lets assume that everyone understands that veterinarians and doctors are an understood potential remedy for sickness in our lives … The questions are meant to ascertain causes, symptoms and possible alternative remedies… saying “go to the vet” defeats the purpose of the blog… For example.. I was once told to go to the vet immediately for issue that was eventually mis-diagnosed by a vet as lime disease.. it wasn’t.. but I’m not going into that story.. the point is people are here to gather knowledge, more information, fuller understandings of what’s going on with the their animal friends, THEY KNOW THEY CAN GO TO THE VETS… asking questions here does not exclude a vet appointment.
People visit the web every day because they don’t want to go to their vet or can’t afford a vet. They want a diagnosis – why their pet is sick, how severe the illness is, how long it will last, and how to treat it at home. This is impossible to do over the Internet (also impossible to predict everything in real life, too). So it does bear repeating to go to a vet for pet-specific problems, diagnosis and treatment plans. Sometimes that is what people need to know – that the problem warrants a trip to the vet versus watching it at home.
for wondering
my cat were diagnosed 2004 with feline herpes. they are still getting llysine caps 2x day in 2 teaspoons water thru a sryinge. last outbreak 2 years ago. i cannot go to the vet this would help kitty and the breathing noises sound like weasing for that i give 1/2 zrytec 5mg. walmart brand it can’t have any other ingredients except Cetrine HCI this could also help w sneezing. your cat may not have feline herpes mine do and they have adjusted for 6 years
Wow You People are a bit rude!!!! Not everyone can afford to run to the vet!!! Thanks for absolutely no help what so ever!!!

I mean this vet,,well I cannot say!HELP
hi All
i “adopted” a kitten about 6 months ago because it was possibly left to die. i cannot afford VET fees here in South Africa so that is not an option. my cat has also started sneezing quite a bit(possibly 10 sneezes each sneezing bout), mouth slightly open although not battling to breath, taking his paw and rubbing his nose. he is still eating ok and still seems content. he is a little rascal now and hunts birds, plays with the dogs and is really a precious animal. i am just concerned about the continued sneezing which has never happened before. we have had a lot of rain over the last couple of days but he is a house cat (besides his hunting expeditions outside). i have read about cat herpes, allergies, etc and need to know what Home Remedy somebody has used that could help me. here the Vet fees are extremely expensive (consultation about R280 which is equal to 40 US dollars and then you still have to pay for injections, antibiotics, etc. i lost my job a few months ago and paying anything up to 150 US dollars equivalent is not an option. can i have somebody come back to me with a good old home remedy that i can try please. thanks to all of the comments about going to the VET as a no brainer option. we would all like to go to the VET but we all cannot affords it. i understand animals cost money but when you are put into a position like mine you cannot just give them up. please help somebody
If you cannot afford a visit to the vet then do NOT get pets. THey are not toys or a form of entertainment and should be treated as part of the family and especially get medical care if they need it!!
Wow..some of these comments are pretty harsh. Most of us don’t run to the doctor when we have a cold. My cat has been sneezing a lot since yesterday. Meanwhile, she is running around the house like a horse chasing my other cat. If this continues, I will take her to the vet in a couple of days. There was also some good advice here…I think I will take her into the bathroom when I shower so she can breath some steam…
As an FYI…a lot of cats develop allergies & asthma type problems when they live in a smoking household…
just another thought…about the comments saying people on a tight income shouldn’t adopt an animal…think again…have you been to one of the shelters lately? do you really think these dog & cats wouldn’t really LOVE to go home with a person or family who would love to have them despite the fact that the family doesn’t have a lot of money? The fact is…there are too many stray animals….go into any of the shelters and see how many sweet babies beg to be taken home…better to be taken home where they will be loved…and God forbid…something bad happens…maybe it’s better to have lived in a loving family than in a shelter…
I have 4 rescue cats. The medical bills could kill me but they are my responsibility. All are spayed/neutered and well fed and loved. Like children they cost money and are a responsability. I know a weekend with a sick kitty could set me Bach five to eight hundred dollars. I hope it won’t but I spent $285 today and know we might need more tomorrow. Seriously, would you have or adopt a child you couldn’t afford to feed or take to the doctor? I’m staying up with my “boy” tonight to keep an eye on him and give him comfort –that’s what a mom does…
hi, my cat sneezes, for a few weeks already – since i moved to a new apartment, but other then the sneezing she seems perfectly fine – playing, eating and drinking right, can i just wait for it to pass, or do i have to take her to the vet?
I have 3 cats my 12 year old began to sneeze and makes a whimpering sound before the sneeze also watery eye and the part of his eye is red he also has loose stool
I’ve made 3 appointment and the vet has lost power 3 days in a row I have another one for tomorrow to. Please give me some hope the wait is killing me… my other cat started sneezing today to so he is going tomorrow to. Please just needsome answer
My cat has been sneezing and wheezing for 2 months, he is 10 years old. We have spent $200 on two visits to the vet for antibiotics and scoping his nose etc and they can’t figure out what is wrong. We don’t know what to do at this point. Hate to keep putting money down the drain! The cat is getting worse, so I guess we’ll have to spend more money!
Not everyone who can’t afford to go the vet got the pet with the intention of never being able to go. Some have lost jobs, income, their homes, or have had other financial hardships including medical issues themselves. So try not to judge. Also they are like children. As a parent I didn’t run to the doctor for every sniffle. Some things you can learn to do on your own. I think its great that you can go online and see what has worked and treat accordingly, leaving going to the vet when you have to. Also if you do find yourself having to go, explain it to the vet that you are having financial hardships and ask what they can do for you. My vet let me pay in installments and I set up a payment plan and with post dated checks. You do this once and pay it they are likely to do it again in an emergency. Don’t be afraid to ask! Good luck to everyone with your furry family members!
My 16 year old cat sneezes a lot. I also can’t afford to run to a vet (Aly – don’t get angry, we just do what we must and are able). He is spunky, eats and has no excretion problems. Sad to say I do smoke, but try not to around my cats (all indoor cats). Here’s a tip: each evening, for about 30 seconds, I let my sneezy cat snort Vicks from the jar. It actually helps a bit. Give it a try.
I have 2 cats, must be about 16-17 years old, now. My MaineCoon, Misha, I nicknamed Chubsy. But she wasn’t fat, it was all hair and muscle. I’m beside myself now. She’s lost a dramatic amount of weight this past year. I took her to the vet, who charged me $1000 for first visit and med.s, for both cats. One had a urinary infection, drinking a slew of water. But, after finishing her dosing course, she still remained the same. My other cat, the heavyweight..was diagnosed with hyperthyroid. One month of med.s prescribed and didn’t notice even a slight change. I am out of money and patience with the vetenarians in this county. My thyroid med.s cost me $10 a month. My cats cost $50 a month!! My vet claims they are different. I asked him about a compounding pharmacy perhaps being able to sell me her med.s and at a lower price, and he danced around the answer/s. I am now watching her turn to skin and bones. There is no help anywhere. Noone has any alternatives for treating ill animals, for poor people. I feel I”m watching her die a slow death. Her once beautiful white ..what I call petticoats on her back legs are thinned..her beautiful coat and tail has thinnned. I pick her up and all I feel is a skeleton. She eats a lot but won’t gain a pound. I feel so horribly guilty, so sick to my stomach watching them both. They both appear ok, as old as they are, but in my heart, I feel they are extremely ill. My friend thinks their fine, because they don’t look sick, accept for chubsies fur being thinned out. I hate that I cannot do anything any further for them. I’m thinking about giving my kitty my own thyroid med.s and seeing if it helps, but I hate playing w/FIRE!!! So, I’ve succumbed to doing nothing but giving them fresh water, plenty of food, 5 times a day they want to eat, both of them…and plenty of love. Until they “show” lethargic behavior…I can’t do anymore for them, both…This makes me sick…They are both indoor, but do go out on the patio, only.
I have a 14 year old female cat who has alway been quite healthy but 3 weeks ago she started having sneezing fits..like 15 at a time and her eyes water a bit and she wheezes like she is congested so I have been giving her L-Lysine..I mix some of the capsule into the gravy of her wet catfood and if she doesn’t take the bait I mix some of the l-lysine with warm water to make kind of a paste and put it in her mouth with a syringe. She doesn’t like to be held much when I do this so i rub some Rescue Remedy for pets (its an oil) inside her ear and it calms her..its great stuff…especially if a stressful event like a move is happening, it helps pets deal with stress. A vet showed me how to mix the l-lysine in with food and he recommended it when my other cat had an eye infection and said the l-lysine is good to give them if it seems they are coming down with something..it seems to have helped my other cat with the sneezing so I thought I would let others know in case they wanted to try it..the L-lysine is inexpensive and might be worth a try before considering a trip to the vet. I also stopped giving my cats tuna (which i thought was a treat) only to learn it can be fatal for them. Google it and you will learn what I did, I only fed it to them occasionally but I’m glad I learned that it is not healthy for them at all.
2 weeks ago my 3 year old cat started sneezing a lot (over and over) I look on the internet and read that I shouldn’t be too worried but to watch him (he was eating/going to the bathroom/playing normally). Then last weekend He just wasn’t himself, he wanted to be on my lap all the time (he’s not a lap cat and as much as I’d love him to be I knew something was up) He was so hot, I could tell he had a fever and his third eye lid (I think thats what it’s called) was half closed – well of course I rushed him to the emergency vet, while he was only sneezing I was fine watching him but this scared me to death. They sent my home with Clavomox (spelling?) and gave him a saline sublingual shot… he started doing better within a few days.
However now he is sneezing again! I understand what you all are saying about being responsible and knowing that animals need to go to the vet but I just dropped 200 dollars last weekend and, honestly it feels like they didn’t even fix the problem
I have 3 cats that I fell in love with while fostering and decided to keep – I am a single mother and full time college student so to tell you the truth I really don’t have a lot of extra cash BUT my boys are all taken very good care of, they are up to date with their shots they have been neutered, I do not neglect them. I need to know if this sneezing is something that will pass on its own (like when my daughter or I have a cold) or will he get really sick again? If I need to take him to the vet I absolutely will but I need to know what to say, I dont have hundreds of dollars to drop while the vet try’s this and that, I just want my Hemingway to feel better.
Oh I should mention that while the sneezing fits have come back he is still eating and otherwise acting normally right now
He is an indoor cat but knows when company comes over that he can run out the door (I always say watch out, don’t let the cat out but somehow he gets out once every few weeks). Also my 2 other cats haven’t shown any sign of sickness, I don’t know if that matters but it does make me wonder if it’s a virus.
The poor guy, he is the king of the house and I can tell the sneezing is bothering him (it kind ruins his macho appeal to my other two boys kitties who look up to him like he’s a God) he has an image to keep up and being a sick mommy’s baby just doesn’t fit haha.
Please help, I am trying to be positive and smile but there’s an underlying fear that something will happen to him and that just kills me. I don’t want to, I cannot afford to just throw away money if this isn’t something he needs to see a vet for but if it is then I will find the money (just like I did last week).
Thank you all so much for all of your great advice I read above and for any that you might be able to give me about Hemi

My cat sneezes a lot. Sometimes he has giant sneezing fits that last awhile. We took him to the vet and the vet said he looked fine. He doesn’t cough, its just sneezing. I don’t get it…Could it be an upper respirtory infection or really bad year long allergies?..
just a comment about cat sneezing. make certain there is nothing up there nose. blade of glass; carpet fiber; it can be small but cause sneezing. my old cat sneezed for a long time until we looked up his nose and found a carpet fiber lodged in it. my brother’s cat sneezed due to a blade of grass up his nose. just a thought to double check. look up the nose in the dark with a flash light of course. my new cat is sneezing now he came a cattery and i am hoping it passes
l love the answer that #39 gave. l agree 100% that we who adopt these pets from a shelter are going to be living in a warm loving home. Those of you with rude comments on not owning a pet if we cannot afford to bring them to a vet, well give your head a shake. Those who bring their pets to a vet every time their pet crys for help so to speak, well are you giving your pet a home filled with love, and warmth as it should be given or are you just paying the bill at the vet, taking your pet home and moving on with your day? l speak for those who love their pets enough to give the hugs and love needed. We do our best so rude comments are not necessary. Thank you.
I have 2 cats, my first, Ozzy, was diagnosed with Feline Herpes as a baby (he is now 3), he will live with it the rest of his life. Stress can cause it to flare up (meaning sneezing, running eyes, etc.), pretty much a kitty cold. I was told by the vet that it just needs to run it’s course for the most part. But if the liquid coming out of his eyes is not clear, or the whites of his eyes are not white, he needs to be on medication to clear up that. There was an 80% chance that my second cat, Milo, would get it… but he never did. However, I just came back from vacation last week, and now Milo is sneezing constatantly, but no liquid coming from his eyes and the whites are still white. It has been about a week and a half now, so if he doesn’t appear to be better by next week I will be calling the vet, to confirm if it is Feline Herpes also. He still eats too much and drinks all of the time, and is as playful as ever.
my cat had sneezing, but he acted and ate normally. I read all the comments people wrote. I tried Saline nasal spray on my cat.. well he is fine now. He no longer sneezes.
I believe in vets, but i do not believe in taking ur pet to the vet every time something is wrong. You don’t bring kid to the doctor every time he/she gets sick.
I think vets always say ” bring the pet to the vet”, even when u can treat it on ur own. They will say the most worse scenario that can happen to your pet if not brought to the vet.
So… i thank those people who suggested to use Saline nasal spray and l-lysine. You guys really helped my cute kitty cat. thank you
Hi Elsie my cat was sneezing. I did not bring him to the vet. His sneezing went away in 6 days. no need for vets. If he is eating and drinking… he is fine. If he is really sick, he wount be eating or drinking. Thats what my vet told me over the phone. hope that helps… let me know
Hello my cat, Jinx sneezes every time he wakes up, it’s the first day, but I’m quite concerned. Can anyone help me?
Please remember in this economy people can’t afford to go to the doctors themselves let alone bring a loved pet to the vet. My kitty is sneezing, runny nose and eye. He also has a clogged nose with a bit of red in his nose. I will try some of the suggested remedies.
My cat has an upper respiratory infection. I’ve gone to several vets and they all say the same, it is something permanent that will come and go as it pleases. His symptoms are sneezing (sometimes thick green buggers), teary eyes and congestion
What I have been recommended is to take my cat into the bathroom when I’m taking a hot shower, use a humidifier, L-Lysine, in case of nose congestion to use one drop a day of “Little Noses” decongestant nose drops (Pediatrician recommended). If this doesn’t work then 1/2 a tablet of 4mg chlorpheniramine antihistamine with food (for a 16 lb cat), once a day. If this doesn’t work then you got to take your cat to the vet to get it on antibiotics.
Personally I only use the Little noses sometimes, and had never reached the stage where I need to use the antihistamine. Also, I prefer to keep my cat away from constant heavy meds that could cause more harm that benefit.
Final advice…..Always, at least, call a vet before buying any of the products mentioned above or in this forum. Better to be safe than sorry.
Please be responsible when you buy a pet. Do not ASSUME you will only be paying for food and cat litter. If your cat becomes ill, you need to have it treated. Yes, that involves a couple visits to the local vet and probably some medication.
I am using steam to ease my cats congestion. Is it possible for my cat to get too much steam time?
When I got our kitten we could afford the vet moreso than now. People have unexpected things that happen in their lives. I also agree that people come to this site primarily because they cannot afford to go to the vet. However, people also may visit the site to simply see if they NEED to go to the vet. Sometimes, as with regular doctors, a visit was not necessary. Many times it could be handled at home. I would think however that one would want to know if the condition of their pet is so severe that a vet is their only option and sometimes unfortunately it is! Money or no money there are somethings that can only be treated by a professional – if not we wouldn’t need them and people wouldn’t go to school to become vets. I know how frustrating it can be to be told that and not have the money. I sold china that I had inherited from my mother for a lousy $300.00 because my cat of 12 years had been bitten and it was absessed. I also understand that if you don’t have anything to sell that it can be devastating to watch your beloved animal suffer. To simply say do not get a pet unless you can afford it is ludicrous! What if you can at the time? Then two or three years down the road the economy crashes and you lose your job? I agree that owning multiple animals on a modest income is not wise. Unfortunately it can only take one pet to bankrupt you!
