Hurricane Katrina Pet Rescue Update

Wednesday August 31, 2005
Like so many people across the United States and around the world, I continue to be shocked at the devastation from hurricane Katrina. With thousands of people left homeless, desperate for the basics -- water, food, clean supplies, I also wonder about the pets left behind and what rescue efforts are going on for the animals. This report by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a detailed account of several rescue organizations working together in many regions. The North Shore Animal League is also posting hurricane rescue updates on their site.

While too late for this hurricane, learn what you can do to be prepared in hurricane season, from this North Carolina visitors site. This article also contains some excellent general preparedness tips for pets and emergencies.
