Cat with Liver Disease

Wednesday April 21, 2004
POOKAGIRLY asks: "My 8-year-old spayed DSH female cat, Sinead, has been diagnosed with hepatitis. The reason I'm posting here is because I hope there are other people out there who have dealt with liver disease in their cats and who may have some experience with complimentary medicine (acupuncture, etc.) or other treatment options I could use in conjunction with standard vet care if in fact this condition doesn't clear up with the medicines I've been given."

I am dealing with the exact problem now with my 6 year old inside only cat. I am giving her fluids every other night and assist feeding her before work, when I get home, and again before bed. She is on an anti-nausa med, antibiotic, and appetite stimulator. I am trying to get her to eat on her own with not much luck. She only licks the top of wet food and does not touch dry food. We have just begun this battle which from what I understand can last as long as three months. I wish I could help more now but will let you know as I get farther into this if I find any new info or help. Good Luck!

Our 8 year old cat has fatty liver disease. So far we have had very little success in keeping a liquid nutritional high protein food down her due to the nausea and throwing up. She had had a nasal feeding tube in all week but has on two occasions thrown it up along with the food. The vet puts it back in but if she has much food in her, after feeding, and vomits it comes up too. In the morning we are going to a vet to do acupunture to try to stop the nasea and throwing up. She’s not doing good.

I have a an 8yr old cat diagnosed with acute hepatitis and is under medication but my problem is that he doesnt touch any food even milk that I have to push into his mouth. And this vomiting problem I dont know what to do during feeding time. Because of this I endure sleepless nights.
