Is Owning Pets Unethical?

Monday August 25, 2003
Forum member EXOTICS1 asks: "I currently own a turtle, bearded dragon, dog, rabbit and fish. Up until this point, I have believed that caring for these pets was alright. However, recently I have begun evaluating the legitimacy of my decisions. I have come to the conclusion that owning exotic pets is inhumane. The idea of the animal not being able to roam in its natural habit or have the opportunity to procreate is disturbing to me. Is there anyone out there with similar view? If you are a veterinarian, how do you deal with this in the clinic?"
