The scenario: the owner's cat has kittens. At age 4.5 months, one of the kittens escaped outside and was apparently hit by a car. The owner took the injured kitten to the vet and was told that the pelvis was fractured. It would be $3,000 to $4,000+ to care for the kitten. The owner wanted to take the kitten home. In her words:
-
"I told them I wanted to take my little "Twilight" home and they refused to give her to me; they said if I tried to take her out of the hospital, they would call the animal control and they could put me in jail for cruelty to animals for taking her out of the hospital. They wouldn't let me get a second opinion or even look for another place that might would have worked with me on payments. I was heartbroken; I was in that animal hospital crying like a baby and they told me my only other option was euthanasia." Read full post
When vets see cases of obvious neglect or abuse, they have a duty to do what they can to care for the animal medially and either get the person to legally surrender the pet for medical care or call authorities.
Since this was a pet that was injured, the situation is different. What is your opinion of this case? Please post your comments using the link below or join the discussion in the forum.
